The vintners from Velké Bílovice baptized the first appelate map

The Czech Republic has its historically first appelate map of vineyards. It was ceremonially baptized on Friday, June 12, 2009 by vintners from the biggest domestic vintner village Velké Bílovice from the Břeclav district.

Manually drew map of vineyards had been created almost one year and its purpose is to simplify searching the favourite vineyard the wine lovers. „With 710 hectares of vineyards is Velké Bílovice surely the biggest vinicultural village in the Czech Republic. And because we are proud of this fact and we wanted to make the whole area more synoptic, we authorised the local painter Klára Řezáčová to create a map of local cultivated vineyards", explains František Zapletal, the chairman of the civic club of vintners from Velké Bílovice.

Velké Bílovice is famous not only for the biggest area of vineyards but also for notoriously known event of opened wine cellars called From wine cellar to another wine cellar, which is visited by 4.5 thousand of visitors. This makes this event the biggest wine degustation in open wine cellars in Moravia. Visitors go there through the biggest area of wine cellars in the Czech Republic. Altogether 650 wine cellars are placed in areas with interesting old names of wine cellar streets, for example Portugalová, Belegradksá, Habánská, Prezidentská street. Vintners in Velké Bílovice produce altogether more than 7 million litres of great wines. Velké Bílovice thus produce a 0.75 litre bottle of wine for every citizen of the Czech Republic.

The appelate map baptism itself carried the spirit of folklore traditions. Two local boys and girls dressed in broidered folk costumes fulfilled the honour of holding the map during the ceremonial affusion with sparkling wine. In addition to the godmother, singer and actress Světlana Nálepková, and vintners from Velké Bílovice there were also dozens of citizens and visitors taking part in the baptism. The event was finished with a local wine-cellars wine degustation.
